Lyra recently released its updated toner cartridge forecast for the years 2007 through 2012. Despite the economic downturn, Lyra forecasts that the total laser printer and MFP installed base and total toner cartridge shipments and revenue will growthrough 2012. However, not all segments will experience growth, and the majority of the growth will occur in the color and MFP segments.
The laser hardware market is slowly transitioning from monochrome to color devices and from printers to MFPs, and the supplies market is transitioning along with it. Hardware installation trends comprise one of the largest factors that fuel suppliesshipment trends. Overall, the laser hardware market (excluding high-endmonochrome printers and MFPs and color production devices) is forecast to growat a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6 percent from 2007 to 2012.
The greatest growth willoccur in the color hardware segment. However, although the color laser hardwaremarket is forecast to triple by the end of 2012, it will grow from an extremelysmall base. The installed base for color will increase from only 2 percent of total laser hardware installations to 5 percent. |
